Eco – Tourism

Sustainable tourism

Russell Holiday AccommodationRussell is ideal for  low impact activities and exploration eg walking, cycling and kayaking. Russell is situated in the geographic centre of the Bay of Islands so offers a wonderful range of kayaking, biking, swimming  and walking opportunities.

You can kayak to an island in an hour or so and walk to another island in low tide for wide views over the Bay.

You can swim with dolphins

We offer information on and encourage visitors to discover local activities and attractions and promote and tourism businesses with environmental credentials

We continuously improve, manage and monitor our sustainable business practices.

Tipi overlooking the parkAs far as possible we use reclaimed or renewable building materials. We provide recycling bins in all accommodation, use energy efficient lightbulbs and LED lighting in our new buildings.

We are currently converting all exterior lighting to solar. We employ sustainable grey water disposal and are trialling a worm farm for black water disposal.
