If you’re looking for somewhere to host your next group fishing trip Russell – Orongo Bay Holiday Park is the perfect spot. 

The Bay of Islands is world renowned for it’s calm waters and is a favourite location for light tackle and big game fishing. With over 140 islands there are plenty of fabulous fishing spots that are abundant with sea life. 

The park is all set up for those that love to fish. We have space for boats to park, a boat wash and we are only a few minutes from the boat ramp at Matauwhi Bay. There is also a dedicated fish cleaning and filleting bench and a smokehouse to prepare and cook your ‘catch of the day’!

Accommodation options

The Lodge is an ideal venue for fishing groups and clubs and has capacity for over 60 people. Lodge rooms are relatively roomy with sliding glass doors which lead onto a good sized deck for outdoor living. With a cosy log fire and plenty of BBQ areas for socialising it’s the perfect venue summer or winter. 

For smaller groups there are also a number of cabins or self contained options available.  

There is a fish cleaning area and smokehouse together with plenty of room to park your boat and trailer.

Discover bays only accessible by sea, walk secluded beaches and marvel at the prolific wildlife with a Bay of Islands sailing experience.  You can choose to explore the 144 islands on many personalised charters that we can highly recommend or maybe try the Vigilant: a 42 foot classic single mast sailing yacht, the Phantom: a 50 foot mono hull or the magnificent tall ship: R Tucker Thompson.   

Fishing charters 

We recommend sustainable fishing charters whose policies are to preserve the enjoyment of Bay of Islands fishing for future generations. Sustainable fishing includes catch and release of big fish because they’re important breeding stock, minimum size guidelines which exceed NZ government regulations and per person fish limits.
