Park Rules

To ensure the enjoyment of all, please consider others and follow our policies and rules.


Arrival Time: from 2 pm to 7.30 pm in summer and from 8.30 am to 6.30 pm for the rest of the year.


From 8 am to  10 am in summer and from 8.30 am to 10 am for the rest of the year on the day of departure.


Full payment over peak periods or a 50% deposit over the rest of the year is required to secure your booking. If there is a balance to pay, this balance is payable on arrival. As your reservation is a contract with Russell – Orongo Bay Holiday Park,  payment must be made for the full time booked. We do not give refunds for early departure or last minute cancellations.


Smoking is not permitted in any camp building. Please do not throw butts on the ground but dispose of them with consideration for others in the landfill bins.

Park Reception and Camp Store

Opening hours are 8 .00 am to 7.30 pm in summer and 8.30 am to 6.30 pm for the rest of the year.

Wireless Internet

Wireless internet is operated by the Internet Access Company. You are able to log on to your device and buy access using your credit card. Prices start at $2.00.

Swimming Pool

The pool is open from Labour Weekend until the end of Easter from 8am until 8 pm. No glass, food, balls or animals are permitted inside the pool fence. No running on the pool deck nor jumping or diving into the pool. Children under 14 years using the pool must be supervised by an adult.

Speed Limit

Vehicle speed in park is limited to a walking pace/5km per hour .

Conduct and Noise

Quietness between 9.30pm and 7.30 am is required. Reasonable behaviour and dress is required at all times. Consideration must be shown at all times to other guests. Bad language and abusive, or offensive behaviour are not permitted at anytime. Management reserves the right to refuse admission to any person and to remove from the Park without refund any person who in their opinion does not conduct themselves in a decent and reasonable manner. Guests will be told to leave without refunds given if their behaviour does not comply with Park Rules or disrupts other campers.


Alcohol is only permitted to be consumed on your allocated site. Alcohol is not to be consumed within the pool area or walking around the Park. Responsible consumption of alcohol which does not annoy, upset or offend others is permitted. Excessive drinking and parties which disrupt others are not permitted. Park management will require any guest who in their opinion are not following Park Rules to leave immediately without refund.


Please place bottles, cans, paper and cardboard in the appropriate container at the recycle stations. Please remove bottle tops and preferably squash plastic bottles before sorting and disposing of bottles into the correct clear, brown and green recycle bins. Please place food scraps in the compost bin. Please sort and place drink cans and food tins into the appropriate bins. You will find one recycle station beside the roadway adjacent to the pool. The other recycle station, which is used during the peak times, is in the unpowered tent area.

Toilets/Showers/Hand Basins

Children under the age of 5 should be accompanied by an adult when using toilets and showers. Hand basins are not to be used for washing clothes, nor hair dryers for drying clothes. Please leave the bathrooms clean after use. The amenities blocks are closed while cleaning is taking place, usually between 10 am and 1 pm and up to three or four times per day when busy.

Kitchen and BBQ’s

Please leave the kitchen clean for the next camper. Food in the refrigerator and freezer should be named and dated. Our policy is that food which is not named and dated will be thrown out to avoid having food going off in the fridges. The kitchens and amenities area are closed while cleaning is taking place. The amenities blocks are closed while cleaning is taking place, usually between 11 am and 1 pm and up to three or four times per day when busy.

In consideration for other guests, please clean BBQ’s after you have used them


The laundry is open between 7 am and 9 pm. Please do not use the laundry outside these hours as guests can be disturbed. An iron is available from Reception.

Fish Cleaning and Smokehouse

The fish cleaning and smokehouse area is on the north side of the unpowered tent area. Please clean and fillet fish either at the beach or at the fish cleaning area. Wrap scraps in newspaper and place in the camp bin. No filleting in the kitchens or accommodation please. No storage of fish or bait in camp food fridges or freezers.

Please ask at Reception if you would like assistance in using the Fish Smokehouse.

Boat Washing

Boat motors may be washed only in the designated area which is on the north side of the unpowered tent area adjacent to the fish cleaning and smokehouse area. Please be considerate of water use and other campers while washing your boat.


Visitors are allowed by prior arrangement with the Park management. All visitors must report to the Park Office before entering the park and must depart before 9pm. Visitor’s vehicles are to be parked in the parking area adjacent to the Park Reception. Guests are responsible for their visitors including their visitor’s behaviour.


One vehicle only is permitted to be parked on each site.


Campervans must have and display an electrical warrant of fitness and comply with LPG Standard (NZS 5426:1996). All campervans and caravans must have their own wastewater container. The dump station is adjacent to the ablution block. Chemical toilets can be emptied at the dump station.


Electricity can only be connected through an approved isolating transformer or RCD Safety Switch. Please position your tent to allow your vehicle to be parked on your site. Prior to vacating your site please ensure that all pegs are removed and that the campsite is left in a clean condition.

Dump Station

The dump station is adjacent to the ablution block. All campervans and caravans must have their own grey wastewater container. Chemical toilets must be emptied in the dump station. Please ensure that the dump station is left in a clean and tidy condition.

Water Conservation

The whole of the Russell peninsular relies on a tank water supply. This enables us to preserve the character and special nature of Russell and limits inappropriate development. Russell – Orongo Bay Holiday Park’s water supply comes from a local spring which is filtered and UV treated for your safety. In busy times a bore is used for a back up water supply. In the interests of sustainablity, please use water sparingly.


Open fires within the camp are not permitted, except at the designated campfirea area and provided there is not a fireban in operation. Please check with Park mangement if you wish to have a campfire and Park Health and Safety Rules must be followed.

No fireworks are permitted in the holiday park as they have the potential to cause danger or damage.

Supervision of children

Parents/Guardians are totally responsible for their children at all times and are expected to supervise their behaviour and ensure that they abide by the Park Rules, and any other directives issued by Park management. Children under 10 years of age must be accompanied by an adult when visiting the showers, toilets and playground. Children under 14 years of age must be supervised by an adult when visiting the swimming pool and playground.
Bikes or skateboards are not permitted on the decks of buildings, nor inside buildings. Cyclists must wear helmets.


Russell -Orongo Bay Holiday Parks takes pets, except from 20 December until early January and following prior arrangement with the Park management. As we are a bird and wildlife sanctuary, it is a condition of occupancy that dogs must be on a lead at all times. Owners must pick up their dog’s waste and dispose of it in the landfill bins.

We charge a deep cleaning fee from $20 to $40 depending on the size of your cabin. Campers pay a fee of $5.00 per day for their dog.


Flying drones within or above the park is not permitted.

Property Damage

Any damage to Park property will be charged to guests including damage caused by their visitors. The park owners shall not be responsible for any loss, theft or damage of any guest’s property for any reason, including any fault pertaining to any fitting, appliance or piece of apparatus within the vicinity of the camping ground.


Management reserves the right to request to leave without refund any person who in their opinion infringes Park rules or causes disruption .

Acceptance of Rules and Conditions

We ask for your co-operation so that your stay and the stay of other guests can be enjoyable. Booking and occupying accommodation at Russell – Orongo Bay holiday Park implies acceptance of the above rules and conditions by the site holder/occupant.
